Detour is a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox developed by Triglavis LLC that helps you build better browsing habits by redirecting you from distracting websites to your reading list. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring your data remains yours.

Data Collection

We do not collect any personal data. Detour operates entirely on your device with no external servers or data transmission.

Local Storage

Detour stores the following information locally on your device using your browser's storage API:

• Extension settings (daily goals, enabled sites, theme preference)
• Reading progress (articles read today, goal completion status)
• Selected bookmark folder or reading list preference
• Temporarily snoozed websites and duration
• License key (if you choose to support the extension)
• Error logs (limited buffer of recent errors for debugging)
• Redirect locks (temporary data to prevent redirect loops)
• Toast notification states
• Theme preferences (light/dark/system)
• Actual theme state for system detection

This data is stored locally and synced only through your browser account if you have sync enabled (Chrome Sync or Firefox Sync). We have no access to this information.

Permissions

Detour requires the following permissions to function:

• Storage: To save your settings and reading progress
• Bookmarks: To access bookmark folders you select for reading
• Reading List: To support browser reading list features (Chrome's Reading List, etc.)
• Tabs: To detect when you visit distracting websites and manage redirects
• Scripting: To display toast notifications within web pages
• Alarms: To schedule daily progress resets and periodic license checks
• Host Permissions: Limited to popular distracting sites (YouTube, Twitter/X, Reddit, etc.) to enable redirects

Third-Party Services

Detour operates entirely offline with one exception:

• Optional license validation through LemonSqueezy API (only for supporters)
• No analytics services, tracking pixels, or other third-party integrations
• No data collection or telemetry

Data Security

Your data is protected by:

• Your browser's built-in extension security model
• Local-only data storage (no transmission to external servers)
• Your device's security measures

License Information

If you purchase a supporter license through LemonSqueezy:

• The transaction is handled by LemonSqueezy according to their privacy policy
• Your license key is stored locally and validated with LemonSqueezy's servers
• Validation occurs on activation and periodically (every 24 hours) to ensure license validity
• No other personal information is transmitted during validation
• The extension remains fully functional without a license

We may update this privacy policy periodically. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date. The extension will continue to operate under the same privacy principles: no data collection, no tracking, local-only operation.
